See For Miles reissued two of
the Ventures' television-oriented records, Batman and TV Themes, on on CD in 1997. The
Batman Theme was released during the mid-'60s, and it contains a selection of contemporary TV themes and spy songs, including their minor hit version of "
Secret Agent Man". While there are enjoyable moments, the group can't sustain momentum throughout the course of the record. Although it's not perfect, TV Themes is a bit more coherent and enjoyable. Released in 1977, the album finds
the Ventures running through 12 familiar themes from the late '60s and '70s: "Charlie's Angels", "Medical Center", "Star Trek", "Starsky & Hutch", "Baretta's Theme", "Hawaii Five-O, ' "S.W.A.T"., "M*A*S*H", and "Nadia's Theme (The Young and the Restless)". It's not a great record, but it's fun, especially for listeners who try to find kitsch in everything.
